I'd like to read to you a letter that I received from the old country... This is from Trapani in Sicily It says: Caro Benjo Eis I write to you this letter because I'mma very lonesome for you. The last time I was see you face'a to face when we was drivin' around in Chepapaulo's Fiat. Remember Chepapaulo? He tried to sell his Fiat, and he could not sell it, and you told him "why?" He says, "because I got over one hundred thousand miles on it." You says to him, "Why nont you go to Jimmy Simenti's Garage and for ten Lira he change back the spedometer for you?" Well I asked him last months if he sold his Fiat yet. He says, "Why should I sell it? It's only got ten thousand miles on it!" But the reason I'm writing you this letter is I tried'a so hard to see you. I went on Alitalia Airlines We was'a flying over the ocean ... we was'a flyin' about 45 minute, when the voice a come over the intercom was a saying, "Welcome to Alitalia Airlines. This is your captain speaking, Galibaldi Mangibani. We havin' trouble with the right engine. But it's nothing to worry about. Just like to let everybody know. In the meantime, have a glass a' wine, and'a maybe soma pizza, we're gonna get backa to you in just a little bits." Well, abouta 40 minutes later, the voice'a come over the intercom was sayin' again, "Allo, this is your captain, Galibaldi Mangibani, once again. We still havin' trouble with the right engine. Just'a for precaution, we like'a to ask, everybody who knows how'a to swim, you should go on'a the right side of the airplane. And everybody who dos not know how'a to swim, I think it's better you go on the left side'a d'airplane. That's just'a for a precaution. hehe It's nothing to worry about." Well, about 5 minutes later, the voice'a come over the intercom, was'a sayin' again, "Oh oh! April Day! April Day!" I guess he meant to say May Day, but in'a Trapani, that's the way they talk. He says, "Looks like we're gonna hafta make a splash down landin' on the water. We abouts 500 feets off the water. Soon as we hit da water, everybody who knows how to swim, it's better you go right to exit sign and swim straight ahead. You got nothing to worry about, because we's less than a mile from shore. And everybody on the left side of the airplane, who dos not know how to swim, we say to you, 'Thanks a lot for flying Alitalia Airlines!'" |
